Chicago the New Atlanta ? ……………

How Close or True is This ?

Keep Calm let’s dissect the facts and opinions

Lately, rumor has it that Chicago is the next Atlanta, how true is this? I’m not going to take any credit away from Atlanta because their music scene, well entertainment scene as a whole is dope.  They have it together as far as what it takes to stimulate the economy, market and promote the product/artist, and they have southern hospitality which we all know support is what takes you far.  There are so many talented, dedicated, ambitious individuals that have left a major mark on many of us musically. Here is a list of those artist   who have put on for the “A” :

  1. Andre 3000 & Big Boi  (Outkast)
  2. Arrested Development
  3. Akon
  4. B.O.B

  39. Yung L.A.

And their roster is even longer not mentioning a lot of other great talent that came up off the scene in Atlanta.

You know the saying ” There’s a time and place for everything. ” ? Well this is one of those moments where it’s just the time and Chicago happens to be the place.  It’s not that we are the next Atlanta but we are emerging from dirt, a bitter place of people with huge egos, little hospitality, support, respect and where you have to prove to be 100% to be acknowledged on any level of who’s who here in Chicago.  How is it that the 3rd largest market in the entertainment industry doesn’t have the proper platform for our home talent ?Is it because we have to work 65% more than other markets ? or because we are passionate people ?

Chicago has been in tune since the Blues and Jazz thanks to artist such as: Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Willie Dixon, Bo Diddly, Buddy Guy, KoKo Taylor, Junior wells, Son seals, and  The Chicago Blue’s Kings ( Billy Boy Arnold and Jimmy Burns). That’s just on the Blues tip.  Oooooh on the Jazz tip ( in my TLC voice) : Miles Davis, Benny Goodman, Ramsey Lewis, Herbie Hancock, Austin High Gang,Mike Wheeler and Sinyan Shen. I’m just educating you on Chicago’s music background if you don’t mind, I did say let’s dissect this idea.  Not only have we dominated Blues, Jazz and a portion of Hip Hop & R&B we have also dabbled in Electronic, Classical, Country, Folk, Heavy Metal, Sunshine pop, different types of rock and Indie music.  We just don’t be flexing ( to test or display one’s authority or strength) .

  1. Alex Wiley

  47. Bump J
  48. L.E. P. Bogus Boys

Apparently Chicago has made a mark on the entertainment world long before 2013, so why is that we are now just getting the attention that some may believe we have been deserved ? In my opinion, Chicago is a very hard market to break into, we have no hospitality. Your not welcome here if you haven’t proved who you are, ALL WE CARE ABOUT IS RESPECT and money. Illinois is very big, so is Chicago but everybody nearly knows everybody. So if everybody knows everybody why aren’t we making any real noise ? No support, no unified movements, over charged events that aren’t well put together, and false hope of connections and help. I’ve always had the question of why Twista, Kanye West, Common, R. Kelly, or even Lupe Fiasco hasn’t reached into a talented community they know so well to help out  inspired talent ?

Chicago is the City of Hustlers

This is a fact no matter what market your in, in Chicago, if your born and raised here every day is a hustle more than a struggle. You have the sock hustler, the candy man/woman, loose cigarette man ( Mr. Hell Yeah Hell Yeah ) , anything we can get our hands on is worth selling. Today’s music scene is just a bit more aggressive and WILL not take you not knowing who they are. It’s about time that Chicago introduces you to a city full of talent where actors/actress, comedians, rappers, artist, dancers, writers, producers, A&R’s, entertainment prodigys that have been waiting to show you what they are made of.

The New Kids On The Block

The New Kids on the block have made the buzz in Chicago Go Crazy! Some may be old but they are taking off in the new scene of things. So don’t take it the wrong way if your an old cat in The New Kids On The Block list. Think of it as you’ve never aged and your being recognized in the past and the present. LOL.
